Macy's Herald Square opened at its current location on 34th street in 1902, the 9 story building featured 33 elevators and 4 escalators. From the very beginning "Americas largest department store" has been a retail store trend setter having introduced the first in store Santa, elaborate window displays, and the first store in America to use an escalator, to this date visitors can still ride the original wooden escalators throughout the Herald Square store. Macy's Herald Square now covers an entire city block with 11 stories showcasing the latest trends for you and your home, a full service visitors center, and restaurants throughout the store.
