About About the New York Islanders

The New York Islanders were founded in 1972 in order to keep the Raiders of the World Hockey Association out of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, they have since been playing there in Uniondale New York. In the course of the team's history they have had eight former members inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame including Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin, and Brian Trottier. The New York Islanders have won four Stanly Cups, five Conference Championships, and six Division Championships.
The team has won four Stanly Cups consecutively, from the 1979-80 season to the 1982-83 season. Although the Islanders have not won a division title since the 1987-88 season and they have not had a playoff series win since the 1992-93 season, the team continues to work towards a bright future. After replacing head coach Scott Gordon, during a ten-game losing streak, with Jack Capuano the team made great improvement and earned praise for their great performance in the second half of the season.
